Module 6 of 8

Harvesting and handling

8 minutes

Harvesting combines speed and quality. A good worker keeps a steady pace without damaging the plant or the produce.

Good practices

  • Check the whole plant: don't leave ready fruit behind.
  • Cut, don't pull. Keep your knife or clippers clean and sharp.
  • Place produce carefully; don't overfill containers.
  • Separate damaged or misshapen fruit as instructed.
  • Leave the row clean: leaves and culls go where you're told.

Productivity

Many greenhouses measure productivity (for example, rows or boxes per hour). At first it's normal to be slower; speed comes with practice. What matters most at the start is doing it right.
